THIS IS CHRISTIAN WOHLWEND

Christian Wohlwend is an ice hockey coach with passion, commitment and determination. He fights and tries everything to make his team succeed and does it in his own and authentic way. His emotional directness is his strength, he shares his opinion unfiltered. That doesn't always go down well. "He's the coach who always makes trouble and sometimes strains the players' nerves," writes the Tages-Anzeiger.

What counts for Christian:

«all in»

His offensive playing philosophy also contributes to honest and open communication. A wait and see approach doesn't suit him as a coach or as a private person. What counts for Christian is "all in". That's what he burns for. He was like that even as a player: offensive, impetuous and passionate. A fighter. He was considered a once in a decade talent in his youth, but due to his impetuous nature he also suffered numerous injuries: 14 broken bones, discus hernia and he almost lost an eye.

Career as a coach

The first coaching positions of Christian Wohlwend were at HC Thurgau, EHC Wallisellen and EHC Bülach. In 2013 he became youth coach at HC Lugano and assistant coach in the NLA. In 2015, after the dismissal of Patrick Fischer, Wohlwend took over the job as head coach at Ticino and became Fischer's assistant coach in the national team. In 2018, Switzerland won the World Cup silver medal with him and Wohlwend also celebrated successes as head coach of the U19 and U20 national teams, including a semi-final appearance at the World Cup in Vancouver. From 2019 to 2023, Wohlwend was head coach at HC Davos. On August 1, 2023, he will take over as head coach at HC Ajoie. Wohlwend has won multiple silver medals. In the 1st league with Bülach, with HC Lugano Elite A, with HC Davos at the Swiss Cup and with the national team at the World Cup.
